Romi Khosla Design Studios has 40 years of design and project realization experience. It is not only one of the leading architectural practices in India, its design partners have international recognition on a number of global foray. Headed by partners Romi Khosla and Martand Khosla, this prestigious firm designs bespoke solutions to each client’s unique needs. The Studio buildings are exquisitely detailed and that is one reason why their work has been so extensively covered in Architectural journals internationally as well as nationally. Inevitably, the social and climatic relevance of their buildings is extremely pertinent to emerging India.
The studio has remained mid-sized and this enables its partners and design staff to pay special attention to each of their clients. Every aspect of the design process is carefully monitored and integrated into the building process from start to finish. With its staff of 20 people, and intimate design atmosphere, the Studio has, during the last 12 years, received international acclaim by having one of its University buildings included amongst the globally best of the century. The cutting edge design initiatives that the Studio proposes regularly in its international design competition have received recognition and commissions. The studio is currently designing buildings in Mauritius and Uzbekistan as well as a public object in Rotterdam. In the recent past it has done projects in Nepal and Bhutan. However, the bulk of the work of the studio is located within India.
Romi Khosla Design Studios has a variety of clients who belong to varied socio-economic groups. The bulk of the portfolio consists of institutional facilities. The Studio has designed and completed buildings for nearly all the leading schools of India (The Doon School, Lawrence School Sanawar, Assam Valley School, Daly college Indore, Spring dales School, Sardar Patel Vidyala and some of the leading colleges of India (Delhi University, Jamia University). Currently they are completing an entire the junior school to their earlier designed Assam Valley School campus of 200 acres.
The Studio has recently won The World Architecture Award for three of its University buildings for Jamia University Delhi. These are the 10,000m² Dental College, the University Art Gallery as well as the University Student Cafeteria. The Cafeteria has become an iconic symbol of contemporary Indian architecture – it was selected by Phaidon Architectural Press as one of the best global buildings of the 21st Century and published in their book of the same name. Its images have also appeared on the cover of the Random House Book “Modern Architecture of New Delhi”.
The design stage of the Indian Embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and the junior school and dining halls for Assam Valley School are nearing completion, ready for construction. Under construction, the Studio has one of its largest recent projects, - the 73 acre Zuari Garden City in Mysore. Also under construction is the ‘twist and shout’ –public facility in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the cultural complex for ISKCON in Mauritius, as well as two private houses in Himachal Pradesh as well as a corporate interior for Greenply. Its most recent completed building is the Volvo–Eicher Corporate Headquarters in Gurgaon – a LEEDS Platinum rated office building and The Training Institute and offices for the Apeejay Surrendra Group in Kolkata
